Easter weekend did not go well. Well parts of it did. But most of it sucked. It all started on the Wednesday before Good Friday. Finley wasn’t feeling well. She wasn’t eating or playing – basically sleeping + drinking milk. This continued onto Thursday but by Thursday night, we thought she was out of whatever funk she had been in for the last 2 days. Turns out we were wrong. So very wrong.
Getting to Grandma Gail’s on Good Friday. Uncle Brad showed Finley the slinky and both kids were loving it. Finley especially loved making it go down the stairs. Looks like another birthday present idea….
I think Finley thought this was like the tunnel she has in our basement. She found out quickly that this was not the case as she got stuck going in. This one is for the mean cats who inhabit Grandma Gail’s house. I am not kidding, these cats like nobody. Maybe they like Gail + Aaron but I have yet to witness any affection from the cats.
Finley playing with some toys that Grandma Gail had kept of Uncle Brad’s, Daddy’s + Uncle Aaron’s. It was pretty cool to see the old school little people farm house. the animals were so much cooler back then.
Unfortunately, these were the only good photo’s I got from Good Friday at Gail’s place. Shortly after arriving, I got hit instantly with the 2nd worst migraine of my entire life and I am not even close to exaggerating. It basically ruined my entire weekend. In fact, I did not eat another meal until last night. Every meal I have eaten since then were bites. It sucked big time. It was so bad, I cried on the floor right beside the couch in the above photo where Brad was sitting. I then went to sleep downstairs in the basement where I proceeded to vomit all over the floor because I couldn’t make it to the bathroom. I literally woke up and vomited. It was awful and poor Greg had to clean it up. Hopefully there wasn’t any permanent damage to the carpet (Please let me know Gail). I soon overdosed on drugs and was able to fall asleep at my sister’s house. However, the headache + nausea stayed throughout the entire weekend!
On Saturday morning, we met for breakfast and were able to visit with Great Grandma Erna, Great Grandpa John (who loved the pink john deere bib that P was wearing…Thanks again Jyl), Great Aunty Kathy, Cousin Sascha who was in from Ottawa. It was great seeing her as she is moving to Hong Kong for 2 years in July. Also there was Grandma Gail + Uncle Brad. I was really happy that we got to see them as the following day’s events prevented us from attending the Diederich Family Easter at Aunty Kathy’s place.
We followed breakfast out with lunch at Bonanza on 8th Street. My most favorite place in Saskatoon and where we eat every single time we visit. We were able to see my old boss Byron but unfortunately Gary + Shannon were off this time. I was mad that I was still sick as I was unable to enjoy the deliciousness of a chicken monterey sandwich and french fries dipped in catalina. Greg make’s it here but it just isn’t the same as there. Oh so good.
This was Easter Dinner held on Saturday night at my Aunty Sandy’s. Easter dinner also culminated with Jimmy’s birthday which was that night and Ashton’s which was next Saturday.
Gluten free ice cream cake from Dairy Queen much to the dismay of my mom, Kristy, Greg and probably others. It didn’t have the cookie crumbs like they normally do. I don’t care because I hate ice cream cake.
Ashton’s birthday cake. It had a Toy Story theme. It was pretty tasty.
The Birthday Boys
Ashton playing with his vacuum cleaner. He loves to clean.
Finley on Easter morning. She looks happy but she wasn’t. She slept terribly which resulted in terrible sleeps for everybody else.
2 of their Easter Baskets. They were spoiled ridiculously by our family. You should see the stuff we brought home with us!
Finley somewhat participating in the Easter Egg hunt. No chocolate eggs for these kids. Their Easter eggs were full of hair ties, bracelets, bubbles, fruit snacks, silly bands, and stuff like that. Although they did get a fair amount of chocolate – some of which we ate and some of which is being frozen for baking purposes.
Another Easter Egg hunt at Great Aunty Sandy’s. Finley cheated and carried her basket around in a wagon while looking for Eggs with letters F + P on them.
Madison changing Penelope’s diaper with quite the audience. She is taking her Babysitting course soon after she turns 11 in June. Her mom decided she needed to practice changing diapers in case she needs to do this while babysitting and Penelope was good practice material. I was impressed because the first diaper I changed was Easton’s and he’s the tall boy on the end with the blonde hair. He was about a month old and he pooped. I didn’t know what to do so I stuck him in the bathroom sink and sprayed him off. He didn’t like it. The worst part? I was like 24 years old.
This is why we left a day early and missed Easter lunch at Aunty Kathy’s. It turns out that Finley was not feeling better. In fact, her not feeling well before we left was a precursor into the hacking cold she had. It was awful and no sleep Saturday night made it a million times worse. We couldn’t get her to nap for the life of us and she ended up having a severe breakdown. We decided to leave Sunday afternoon instead of Monday like we originally planned. And although I am disappointed to miss seeing family and going to the dinosaur museum in Drumheller, I am glad we did. She slept all the way home, had a good night sleep and was much happier Monday morning. Unfortunately, both her + Penelope still have colds but they are happier at home then being away.
This has been an otherwise quiet month in terms of accomplishments + milestones but another great month just the same.
On April 1st, you sat by yourself on the floor before heading to Frunkl Jack’s house. Your smile was so big and you seemed so very proud. You have done a face plant and fallen backwards a few times but you seem to enjoy it when you are put in that position.
You have lost all interest in your beloved Baby Einstein Seek + Discovery Mat just as your big sister did as soon she started boogying around the floor. You now love this rock n roll toy by Fisher Price. I have no idea what the official name is but you love it as much as Finley did.
We know have to child proof again as we kinda fell of the child proof wagon as your sister got bigger and didn’t need it. You tend to eat everything off the floor and even had your first bit of Salt N Vinegar Chips which you enjoyed. You truly are your mother’s daughter. Haha.
You are still not big into toys and do not chew your Sophie to death like your sister. In fact, your Sophie has been at your buddies Oliver + Hugh’s place and we didn’t even miss it. Finley would have been dying by now. You don’t seem to have a favourite toy to chew on or play with and are somewhat content with whatever we put in front of you.
You still have just your bottom 2 teeth but I seem to think the top 2 will be popping through anyday now. At least I hope so. You are the drooling queen, you have rosy cheeks, you are highly irritable and you are not eating like you used to. Thankfully, you are still a rockstar sleeper with the only exception being last Friday afternoon.
You have finally figured out how to eat puffed wheat and cheerios on your own and you LOVE them. They seem to keep you full when you refuse to drink your bottle or eat your meals. You and your sister will eat them for hours. We find it funny that Finley wouldn’t eat a cheerio or puffed wheat until you started. Finley has hated puffed wheat forever and barely tolerated cheerios. She was a big numnum’s lover which you don’t seem to care for.
You had your first visit to the Easter Bunny on the weekend. You were indifferent to the whole thing and probably had no idea what was going on. If you are anything like your sister than you will be the child who cries when they have to leave the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus not when they are forced to see them. Which you will soon learn is quite normal. Mommy will post this photo on Easter Sunday for all to see.
We headed down to the Stampede Grounds for Aggie Days last weekend. You did not like it at all and pretty much cried the whole time. It was really busy and to be fair there wasn’t much room for us folks with a stroller. Next year I am sure you will love the animals and again if you are like your sister, a stroller will be a distant memory for us.
You are still napping twice a day. You sleep for an hour or two in the morning and about 3 hours in the afternoon. You go to bed at around 8pm and tend to sleep right through until anywhere between 6 + 730 but most mornings it is around 7 which is ok by me. You go to sleep easily as long as you are in your grobag and have your gloworm. If either is missing it takes forever to get you happy enough to fall asleep. Your sister was the exact same way.
You still go banana’s on your Musical Jumper. It has been raised a few levels so you can jump even higher much to your delite. Finley loves to jump with you which causes you both to go into fits of laughter which is pure music to our ears. I am so grateful that you love the jumper as it keeps you happy + occupied while baking or cooking or cleaning and that is awesome!!!
You still love to have baths but you hate the before and after part of it. Mostly because you are cold. You like to be wrapped in a towel and cuddled to get warm before getting dressed. Your sister loves to help with this.
You are insanely ticklish. You love getting tickled by your sister and daddy. You laugh and giggle so much, it is just hilarious! But like Finley and your daddy, you have the ability to turn it off just like that and get really mad if you get tickled and not in the mood. I really wish I had this ability.
We have switched your from your bucket seat into a rear facing carseat. You seem to love it very much. You are slowly getting used to being in the toddler seat for your stroller. It took awhile before you were happy but now you love it!
I am so proud of all your accomplishments! I can’t believe how fast you are growing + reaching milestones. It definitely goes by so much faster with second babies. Soon you will be crawling and standing because you are thisclose now.
Until next month my beautiful baby girl…
Yesterday afternoon we all headed down to Aggie Days at the Stampede grounds. We had never been before and weren’t sure what to expect.
Finley checking out the chickens.
They had pigeons on display. I am still trying to remember the name of Burt’s pigeon from Sesame Street. I think it’s Gloria but not too sure. We watched SS this morning but they made no mention of her during Burt + Ernie’s Adventure. Anybody know?
Penelope at Aggie Days. She had no interest in anything and voiced her displeasure numerous times.
Finley checking out the cows. Did you know that black cows are where angus beef comes from? I did not that until Uncle Warren told me last month after I expressed an interest in owning only all black cows and horses. Why you ask? Because they are the prettiest.
These are baby cows. They are named Bert + Ernie. I am not even joking. They are going to be milking cows soon. Cows produce a lot of milk. I always thought if it would be cheaper if I owned a cow for the amount of milk we go through, it turns out I would just waste a lot more because of how much they go through. They had a station where you could make butter but the line was too long and Finley wouldn’t really care anyway as she doesn’t even know what butter is.
Watching the bunny rabbit do their obstacle course.
You thought I was joking didn’t you. Nope, they actually had obstacle challenges for the bunnies. This was a practice run.
Finley touching the horse. She seemed to quite enjoy being able to pet all of the animals.
We had a real good time at Aggie Days but it definitely isn’t designed for Finley’s age as a lot of the displays and booth and interacting places were for older kids but she loved the animals and being able to pet them. Kids 12 and under are free and adults are $5 but you can get coupons out of the Calgary Herald if you are inclined to do so next year. I don’t recommend strollers but I figure if Penelope is anything like Finley, we won’t even have our stroller next year at this time!!
