6 years ago today we said “I do” and so began our forever after. It hasn’t always been easy, but I couldn’t imagine my life without him.
In honor of our wedding, I have posted a youtube video of our wedding song. We chose “Into The Mystic” by Van Morrison. We loved it because it was not on the top 200 of wedding songs and it was quite unusual but so romantic if you actually listen to the lyrics.
Quick TIDBIT: Our first date was to American Pie 2 and our wedding song came from American Wedding
We celebrated last night at Wurst. It is located in Mission and was FANTASTIC. Great food, service and atmosphere. You really can’t ask for much more!!! We had the Bavarian Wings to start (I didn’t like these mostly because they had a tabasco glaze on them which I hate. Greg liked them). Greg had the Schweinshaxen which was the shin of a pig. It looked amazing until he cut into it and then not so amazing. He really enjoyed it. I had the Alberta Prime Striploin. The red wine jus was probably the best I have EVER had. The vegetables that came with were really great – especially the white beets. I even had Greg’s. I wish I knew how to cook beets because they are SO tasty. For dessert we had the while chocolate rhubarb strawberry jam jar. This consisted of white chocolate mousse, rhubarb strawberry jam and chunks of roasted pistachio praelines. You got shortbread on the side to dip into it. DELICIOUS. The food portions were massive but oh my goodness, I cannot state how great it was. I am still full from it as I type this out.
We ended our evening with a walk along the new Peace Bridge at Prince’s Island Park. Here are some photos:
We normally head to Banff on Mother’s Day but we had to skip it this year because of my run. We decided to go the Saturday before after Finley was done with soccer. It was a beautiful day spent outside!
Waiting to hike up Johnston Canyon
It was pretty slushy/icy outside but we managed to not slip too badly
Still lots of snow throughout the canyon
We made it to lower falls
Getting ready to go into the cave
She did not like the cave and quickly came out saying “it’s too scary” mommy
Walking to the Hoodoo’s near Tunnel Mountain
Picnic supper before heading back to Calgary
As we were leaving Banff we came across some Elk having supper.
For all of my previous 3 Mother’s Day’s I have gotten breakfast in bed followed by a trip to Banff and supper somewhere there. This year was different though. I registered to run in the Sportchek Mother’s Day Run so no breakfast in bed for me as I was up bright and early!
It was a beautiful morning and there was an air balloon in the sky. Finley loved this!
We took the C-Train down to Chinook Mall because traffic was limited due to the race. Finley loves trains so was quite happy to be on it
Penelope also enjoyed her train ride
Getting ready to leave my cheerleaders and start the race. It was pretty cool having them there to watch.
There were over 14,000 participants in the race and I am not going to lie, it really sucked at the start. Walkers were in with the runners and were holding people up. It was so jam packed that you actually couldn’t get to your regular pace until almost a mile in. I really enjoyed it but for that reason alone I don’t know if I will run it again.
My reward for having a great race – a island dream cupcake from Bliss. I only ate a little bit before Greg and the girls polished it off. We then hung around the mall waiting for Tiffany’s to open so I could pick up my bracelet that was getting repaired. After we did that, we went and had lunch. I had some delcious sushi!
We then headed back home where Penelope and I napped and Greg and Finley did some yard work. We then headed over to the Cattle Baron for supper. There are 2 locations in Calgary – one by us in Sundance and another in the NE near the Airport. If you haven’t tried it, I really suggest you should. It is amazing food!!!
Penelope enjoying some bread
Finley being silly
The best dessert they have to offer: Mud Pie. Before it came, we explained to Finley that it was ice cream shaped like a piece of pie. When we finished she said ok where is the pie. We said that was the pie and she said ok where is the ice cream. She didn’t quite get the concept. It was pretty cute.
