Hanging with Grandpa Don before heading to the beach
Excited to be flying home that night???
We drove out to Makena Landing to do some swimming and the guys could go snorkeling. The houses up top there are owned by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Steven Tyler amongst others. Britney Spears rents a house up there.
Greg and Brad building a castle while FInley and Penelope built their’s
We finished at the beach around 1pm and headed towards the condo and stopped for lunch again at Kihei but this time, we ate at Cafe O’Lei and it was a great last meal in Maui!!
Greg and I went to Front Street to buy some Macadamia Nuts and snacks for the airplane while the girls stayed with Grandpa Don for a little visit.
Maui cat came to say goodbye
Somebody isn’t happy about returning to the cold weather!!
Our flight left at 930 Hawaii time and arrived in Calgary at 630am local time. Penelope slept almost none of the flight home. It was awful, so awful. Finally we got home around 830am and we crashed. Finley and Penelope pulled out every toy in the toy room while Greg and I took turns napping. Both girls crashed around 3pm and we woke them up at 6 for supper and as soon as their were done, they went to bed and slept until 9 the next morning. Greg actually had to wake up them up as he feared that they wouldn’t sleep that night.
We had a great trip despite the flight home and we are already planning our next hot vacation sometime in the next year or so. Thanks Grandpa Don for being a great host and a great trip. Great memories were definitely made.
By our last full day in Maui, we had run out of things to do and had done everything on the Maui “Must See” list. We decided to drive out to Wailea and Makena and Kihei. Wailea was wear It Goes on or something like that with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. It is a very fancy area that is for sure. Kihei is the cheapest place to stay and it looks really nice.
Lava Flows along the road
We headed back towards Lahaina and decided to stop at Pupu’s Seafood Grill in Kihei. It was really good and had a pretty nice view. We ate on the patio and enjoyed the beautiful weather. Greg and Brad thought it was pretty funny that Finley took a poo in pupu. Sorry for the TMI :)
We headed back to the condo and quickly changed into our swim wear and headed to Kapalua beach – our favorite!!
What a beautiful site to lay on the beach and watch
Sunset in Lahaina. Not sure why this photo is here….blogger is acting werid
More sand castle building
Finding somewhere to eat on our final night in Lahaina
It couldn’t be a trip without Penelope’s famous glare!!!
On Monday night, we all headed to the Old Lahaina Luau. It is the oldest Luau in Lahaina and possibly Maui but I can’t confirm that.
We bought these new dresses for the girls to wear the Luau. The lady said the Luau we were going to was the best one around. This made us happy to hear this from a local!
Unfortunately, the opening of the Luau was delayed by an hour because it was raining so hard. We ended up going across the street to the mall and bought a few things. Finally it was time to head back to the Luau.
The pig buried and cooking. Unfortunately because of the rain delay we didn’t get to see the pigs paraded to wherever it goes.
The food was great – although I wasn’t as brave as most when it came to what I picked. But it was very delicious.
The stage. The show was a history of the Luau. It was really great, informative and captivating. Finley loved it so much, she had a blast. Her favorite dancers were the pink ones and the ones who shook their bums (she usually demonstrates)
Here are some photos:
Hang Loose Hawaii
Grandpa Don with the Hula girls. We saw a coconut bra the next day and Finley giggled and said Grandpa Don likes these….it was pretty cute!!
Despite the rain and late start, the Luau was awesome. I loved every minute of it and highly recommend it. At the end, we got the most amazing banana bread to take home and it was the best breakfast ever on Tuesday morning. Thanks to Grandpa Don for the fun night out!!!
