On Sunday morning, we decorated Easter Eggs. The girls had so much fun and it went a lot smoother then last year :)
I had read on pinterest that you could hard boil your eggs in the oven. So I gave it a try. You set the eggs in a muffin tin and stick in the oven for 30 minutes at 325 (I think that was the temp). Of the 12 eggs, only 1 broke in the muffin tin but I then broke 2 more moving from the muffin tin to the ice bath. They seemed to turn out ok. The broken eggs I used to make egg salad sandwiches and they tasted just fine.
Greg and Finley making dye with vinegar and food colouring. Finley picked pink and purple and Penelope picked yellow and blue.
The 10 minutes we had to wait to dye the egg felt like an eternity
Penelope was so proud of her eggs!!
After the girls dyed one of the eggs, Greg got out white crayons for them to draw on the egg with and then re dipped them in another colour
Last weekend we went and bought a strider bike for the girls. We probably should have bought it for Finley last season but we thought she could learn to ride her bike without using one first. But at the end of the summer, she couldn’t ride her bike which had steering wheels, she could barely control her scooter and had the worst sense of direction on her trike. Something had to change. Everybody who has had or still has a strider say that it is what got their child to the next level. We shall see.
Finley getting her helmet strapped on for the first time this season
The seat is as high as it can go and she looks kinda funny on it. She doesn’t quite understand how to push on her feet and then pull them up.
On Sunday afternoon we headed back out again to give it a try
Penelope likes to be on the trike but she doesn’t get the whole pedalling thing
Finley is really enjoying herself and there were times where she almost got it but lost her balance and quit. If we keep working on it and the snow and cold stay away I think we can be successful….but only time will tell…
*****This was ssupposed to be posted on his actual birthday March 2nd but I accidentally scheduled it to post in April!!!!
The girls wanted to bake a cake for their daddy’s birthday. Finley wanted a green princess castle and Penelope wanted pink cupcakes. We settled on Martha Stewart’s Maple Cake because that was what Greg requested. Well, he actually requested a maple chiffon cake but after looking at various recipes I knew that was never gonna happen!!
We went to Sobeys and bought green icing to write on the cake and some green sprinkles but then they wanted “pretty sprinkles”
Happy Birthday Daddy!!!
The top of the cake. I thought I was buying green gel to write on it but it turns out it was thick green icing so that was the best I could do. The girls only went a “little” overboard
